The Servicemember’s Civil Relief Act (SCRA) provides certain legal protections from collection activity for any customer that has been called to active duty or active service. Servicemembers may also be eligible for interest rate reductions and suspension of applicable fees while on active duty. Servicemembers are eligible for protections under SCRA for debts incurred prior to active duty/service. If a servicemember’s active duty period begins the same day the account was opened, SCRA benefits are applied accordingly as if the debt was incurred prior to the active duty period. This webinar will offer insight into ensuring your institution is compliant with SCRA requirements and how to build a successful program.
The increased scrutiny of examiners and regulators regarding SCRA requires financial institutions to increase their oversight efforts. Non-compliance with SCRA requirements increases risk exposure of financial institutions failing to protect consumers. As a result, financial institutions can experience negative implications affecting them both reputationally and financially. SCRA continues to provide consumer protection to Servicemembers, and it’s now more important than ever those financial institutions ensure they are implementing the appropriate tools to ensure they are compliant with SCRA rules and regulations.
